With hardly any background, and no real thought, we headed off to Nova to see Greenberg on Saturday night. It was no mean feat convincing Mr K to go to that particular cinema, as the last few visits have been less than perfect (service, comfort, etc..).
But I’m glad we persevered, as the whole experience was lovely. (Right down to my coconut & kaffir lime gelato. Yum!). Great seats, great service, great film.
I loved the cinematography, the casting, the soundtrack and the storyline. I loved Ben Stiller as Roger Greenberg (who actually reminded me a lot of the character Frank Ginsberg in Little Miss Sunshine) and his self-absorption & accidental hilarity. Despite knowing nothing at all about Greta Gerwig, in my eyes she was the perfect Florence, young, awkward, smart & gentle. To me, it was all about those characters, and the push-pull at the beginning of a relationship, when you haven’t quite realised how important someone is to you. When you think they’re fun & nice, but expendable. When really they’re all you ever needed.
All in all, a simple film, with intricate characters and a beautiful soundtrack. Bliss!
